Spring 2013 Continues

Coreopsis Grandiflora
Spring 2013 is progressing well in my garden. My front yard is doing very well! Knockouts are in full bloom, my Drakensberg Gerberas are doing well too. Finally my Coreopsis Grandiflora is blooming. Shaded side yard with rhododendrons is doing very well. For the first time my rhododendrons are blooming more and more; this makes me happy because I love those flowers.

Backyard is not where near I thought it would be at this time of the year. The trees are eating up all the nutrients in the shade garden to the deprivation of the plants around them. And it gets more sun that I would like; this means sun-loving plants don't do as well and shade-loving plants don't do as well too. In fact, this has been a problem in many parts of my garden. I know that there are part-sun plants but even those do no get enough sun to thrive. Then there is soil that I used around the trees. It was topsoil bought at the garden center. It does not hold water and it is not fertile. I've tried mulching it which has made a bit of a difference. I hope by next year it will be more loamy.

I also planted some shade-loving plants today. I am looking forward to their blooms. I planted pink Astible and Hydrangeas.
