Dry Creek

I did not wake up one day and I decided I want to see a dry creek running through my yard. My house is at the bottom of a sloped street and this meant that all the water that comes from the backyards that are more elevated than mine ended up in my yard and my neighbor's who is below me. As a solution I decided a dry creek would be best because the water could continue to move instead of stagnating in my yard causing all sorts of problems.

My dry creek starts at the front of the yard and snakes all the way to the back bending at the corner of the house to end at my neighbor's yard. It has certainly helped with standing water as I no longer have that problem.  As you can see in the picture below, water is rushing under the bridge.

The dry creek also act as a divider of formal areas and the woodsy areas of my backyard. As you will see below, the dry creek is not so dry when it rains and you can see its effectiveness when water rushes under the bridge and dumps over to my neighbor.

To help with the back yard navigation, I installed a foot bridge which has been a tremendous help
As you can see in this picture, the arbor had toothpick planks at the top. I had to pay $50 for those to be replaced.

Below is the picture of the arbor updated

I had to request that the bridge design be changed,

When it rains the dry creek turns hues of gray

As you can see, the dry creek is not so dry when it rains!

The sound of the water is really awesome when it rains. I need a big umbrella so I can sit out there and enjoy it!
